At the altar of wealth and celebrity, predators get a lofty seat

Going forward, will the rich and famous stop complying with and covering for monsters like Harvey Weinstein — both in business and politics — and call them out as soon as they try to commit such acts? Will victims finally feel emboldened to call the cops, even at the risk of their careers or the threat of other forms of retribution? Will law enforcement finally do its duty and prosecute these perpetrators so that they do serious time, no matter how “important’’ they might be in their profession?

Not likely, given our cultural tendency to worship at the altar of wealth and celebrity, not to mention the state of the union, with a self-confessed — actually, boastful — predator president at the helm and a staff that supports him.
