In his commentary “Box office smashed? Blame the bad movies’’ (Page A1, Sept. 9), Ty Burr neglected an important reason as to why these movies are made and will continue to be made. Most Hollywood movies of the CGI and superhero variety are not even made for the US market anymore. They are made for the international market box office. For example, “The Great Wall,’’ starring Matt Damon, had a budget of $150 million, grossed $45 million domestically, and pulled in $287 million on the foreign market. Pretty good profit.
