There was no shortage of appreciation for Boston-area art museums on Friday and Saturday, with the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, and deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum all holding their annual galas over the weekend. Over 400 guests helped the ICA kick off a yearlong celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of the institution — and the10th year of occupying its current home overlooking Boston Harbor — on Friday evening, raising over $1?million to support the museum’s exhibitions, performances, and programming. Among the attendees were the museum’s chief curator, Eva Respini, and director, Jill Medvedow.
On Saturday, some 250 people attended the Gardner’s black-tie fund-raising event, which featured a four-course dinner and flamenco guitar performance in the museum courtyard. Guests included museum director Peggy Fogelman, gala co-chairs Anita Bekenstein, Alli Achtmeyer, and Beth Martignetti, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Harvard professor Stephen Greenblatt, and Wellesley College president Paula Johnson.
The deCordova also held its yearly celebration, Party for the Park, on Saturday evening. At the event, Mass MoCA founding director Joseph Thompson, philanthropist and deCordova trustee Deborah Hawkins, and internationally renowned artist Richard Tuttle were all honored.
