Film crews will be in Duxbury again in July and August, this time for an indie movie described as a noir thriller inspired by the Boston Marathon bombing.

“Altar Rock’’ is based on a novel by Kristin Alexandre and tells the story of a teenage girl who loses her parents in a plane crash and finds consolation in a summer romance, but learns the young man is the younger brother of a terrorist, according to Alexandre’s website.

Filming for the movie, which is set on Nantucket, is scheduled to take place from July 23 to Aug. 17 at various locations in Duxbury, including First Parish Church on Tremont Street, Duxbury Beach, Blakeman’s beach restaurant, and a home on Gurnet Road, according to town officials.

Duxbury officials met Tuesday to discuss public safety concerns, including the protection of nesting piping plovers on Duxbury Beach.

Disney’s “The Finest Hours,’’ a movie out this year about a Coast Guard rescue off Cape Cod during a blizzard in 1952, was filmed in part in Duxbury, as was “Good Kids,’’ a movie, also out this year, about four high school students who look to redefine themselves after graduation.

Scenes from the 2013 “The Way, Way Back,’’ featuring Steve Carell and others, were also shot in Duxbury.

As with the other movies, scenes for “Altar Rock’’ will also be shot in other south suburbs.

The movie is being directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, who was the cinematographer on “Speed,’’ “The Verdict,’’ and “Terms of Endearment,’’ among others.

The website for Deadline Hollywood reported that KJ Apa, a New Zealand native who will star as Archie in CW’s upcoming pilot “Riverdale,’’ will be one of the stars of the movie.
