Obama has not been a good model for winning bipartisan accord

It seems, According to the Globe editorial staff, that Donald Trump’s first priority should be to make nice and abnegate the platform that got him elected. When President Obama assumed office, his first priority was a health care plan that, while well-intentioned, was labyrinthine, contrary to human nature, and supported by a matrix of unrealistic assumptions and concessions to legislators, insurance companies, and other special interests.

When 100 percent of the other party, across the entire political spectrum, objected, Obama’s response was, “Elections have consequences.’’ Never before had a major piece of social legislation — Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid — been passed without some bipartisan support.

Hopefully there will be good-faith efforts between President Trump and the loyal opposition to achieve some measure of harmony in addressing major legislation.

But the current president has not set a good precedent.
