A bubbly alternative

At the meeting point of Italian soda and iced Americano is Blue State Coffee’s newest signature drink, the espresso fizz ($3.50-$4.25). For those who find espresso too strong, fear not — this one goes down easy, with no need for milk. In this bubbly take on iced coffee, a double shot of Blue State’s espresso tops seltzer and house-made syrup. Vanilla is standard, but those seeking more flavors can opt for hazelnut, raspberry, coconut, or caramel. Espresso’s earthiness is cut by the sharpness of seltzer and rounded out by sweetness. The result is more crisp than cold brew and lighter than espresso. Seltzer fans will enjoy the caffeine jolt with their bubbles, while espresso aficionados will relish the refreshing riff on their standby. 155 Seaport Boulevard, Boston, 857-250-2484, and 957 Commonwealth Ave., Boston, 617-254-0929.
