Recent bird sightings as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society:

?Plum Island: Reports from the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge included several Cory’s and sooty shearwaters, 10 green-winged teals, two ruddy ducks, a tricolored heron, a yellow-crowned night heron, 12 glossy ibises, a sora, nine lesser yellowlegs, 24 semipalmated sandpipers, 39 short-billed dowitchers, a Franklin’s gull, two seaside sparrows, and an orchard oriole.

?Gloucester: A whale watching trip produced a tally of 125 Cory’s shearwaters, 50 great shearwaters, 75 sooty shearwaters, and 100 Wilson’s storm petrels.

?Cape Cod: Good numbers of shearwaters and storm petrels were recorded east of Chatham.

?Quabbin Reservoir: Reports featured two yellow-billed cuckoos, 11 yellow-bellied sapsuckers, an acadian flycatcher, three yellow-throated vireos, 29 veeries, 23 chestnut-sided warblers, 27 black-throated blue warblers, and 16 black-throated green warblers.

?Hanson: At Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area were an American bittern, a great egret, a glossy ibis, both yellow-billed and black-billed cuckoos, and three orchard orioles.

?Miscellaneous: Reports included a ring-necked duck at Horn Pond in Woburn, a Pacific loon in Nantucket Harbor, seven manx shearwaters at Revere Beach, a sandhill crane and two blue grosbeaks at the Cumberland Farms fields in Middleborough, a whimbrel at Gooseberry Neck in Westport, and an Acadian flycatcher in Pepperell.
