Baskets 10 p.m., FX

This likable, pathos-filled comedy, which premiered with strong ratings for FX last week, was created by Louie CK, Zach Galifianakis, and Jonathan Krisel. Galifianakis plays Chip Baskets, who dreams of being a famous professional clown but winds up getting knocked around as a rodeo clown in Bakersfield, Calif. The best thing about the show is Louie Anderson, who appears as Chip’s mother, Christine. At first, Anderson in drag seems a little gimmicky. But then, as with many of the male actors who’ve played Edna Turnblad in “Hairspray,’’ he transcends costume and gender and you begin to care about Christine. She is an overweight, terminally unhappy person who heaps her self-loathing onto her sons, but we see that she nonetheless has a heart, even if it is fractured. Bravo to Anderson, and to the folks who cast him.

London Spy 10 p.m., BBC America

Props to Jim Broadbent, who turns his supporting role in this mesmerizing drama into something special. He plays Scottie, who has been smitten with his younger friend, Ben Whishaw’s Danny, for many years. Can he help Danny through the loss of his lover?

Republican Presidential Debate 9 p.m., Fox News

I didn’t realize Fox News aired the WWE.

Idiotsitter 10:30 p.m., Comedy Central

Billie and Gene are not my lovers.

Shades of Blue 10 p.m., NBC

Some watch for J.Lo, others for RayLi.
