THE BANQUETTE

Designer Lisa Kreiling, owner of LTK Interiors, created a family-friendly spot to gather and eat in a Newton kitchen newly renovated by Noury-Ello Architects. Shiplap in lieu of an upholstered back keeps it casual and easy to clean but still provides visual interest. The cushions are made from Holland & Sherry indoor/outdoor fabric with a subtle herringbone texture.

THE TABLE & THE CHAIRS

Huston & Company of Kennebunkport, Maine, custom-built the walnut dining table based on its Gates design. “The pedestal base allows people to easily slide in and out, but we used a rectangular top.’’ In black, the updated Willa Windsor chairs from Crate & Barrel strike a modern silhouette and tie in with elements in the kitchen. Plus, they’re wipeable.

THE LIGHT

The Urban Electric Co.’s custom Chisholm Hall zinc lantern adds geometry to the top of the all-white room and provides a weathered appeal to contrast with the crisp newness of the space. A bonus: “It casts beautiful shadows on the ceiling,’’ Kreiling said.

THE ARTWORK

A doughnut shop photograph purchased a while back at a South End art walk is fun and fitting for a family eating area. The colorful trio is by the couple’s sons, Kreiling said. “The kids were really proud when they got home and saw their artwork up there.’’ Black gallery frames from West Elm tie in with the chairs and allow the homeowners to swap out the drawings anytime.

THE FLOOR

Wide-plank solid hickory from Carlisle, finished in an “Antique Farmhouse’’ stain, gives the room a rustic touch and helps balance all the white.
