Gambling revenue at Plainridge Park Casino held steady in November from the previous month, while showing a slight improvement over November 2015.
Last year, revenue at the state’s first slots parlor dipped to its lowest levels in November and December, when weather and the holiday season often put a damper on casino gambling. This November, the Plainville casino brought in $12.2 million, a 2 percent increase from a year ago and a hopeful sign for the coming months.
On a per slot machine basis, daily revenue at Plainridge was about $325, a good bit lower than last summer but high enough to maintain the casino’s status as one of the highest performing in the country.
Revenue at Plainridge bottomed out last December at $290 per machine.
The monthly report showed that the casino reduced payouts to gamblers to their lowest level since June. The facility’s 1,250 slot machines kept slightly more than 7.5 cents per dollar, a figure known in the industry as the hold.
Overall wagers, however, fell to $161 million, the lowest amount since March.
For the month, the casino paid about $4.8 million in taxes and $1 million toward supporting the struggling horse racing industry.
Plainridge, which opened in June 2015, is licensed for 1,250 slots machines and no table games. Two much larger casinos, with table games such as blackjack and roulette, are under construction in Everett and Springfield.
