Derick Brassard set up the tying goal and scored the game-winner early in the third period as the host New York Rangers rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the struggling Minnesota Wild 4-2 on Thursday night.

Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh and J.T. Miller each had a goal and an assist as New York stretched its winning streak at Madison Square Garden to four games.

Henrik Lundqvist made 16 saves, including two third-period stops on Marco Scandella after the Rangers took the lead. Chris Kreider added an empty-net goal with 1:48 to play

Capitals 3, Islanders 2 — Alex Ovechkin scored the winning goal in his return from a one-game suspension for skipping the All-Star Game and Washington avoided a third straight loss by beating New York in the nation’s capital.

Ovechkin (No. 16) scored off a pass from Nicklas Backstrom with 2:40 left to help Washington end a rare two-game skid. The Capitals hadn’t lost three games in a row all season.

T.J. Oshie and Andre Burakovsky also scored for the Capitals. Braden Holtby stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced for the victory in his return to the net.

Maple Leafs 3, Devils 2— P.A. Parenteau’s shootout goal lifted host Toronto past New Jersey, giving Leafs coach Mike Babcock a reason to celebrate his 1,000th NHL game.

James Reimer stopped Reid Boucher, Jacob Josefson and Lee Stempniak in the shootout. Peter Holland and Tyler Bozak missed for the Leafs.

David Schlemko’s disputed third-period goal seemed destined to give the Devils a 2-1 win.

But Bozak beat Keith Kinkaid with a snap shot from the slot with 2:06 remaining to tie the game and set up the shootout.

Panthers 6, Red Wings 3 — Vincent Trocheck scored twice and added an assist, Jaromir Jagr had a goal and two assists for host Florida.

Roberto Luongo stopped 35 shots for his ninth consecutive win on home ice for Florida.

Oilers 7, Senators 2 — Jordan Eberle scored twice and added an assist for Edmonton in Ottawa. Rookie Connor McDavid, in his second game since returning from a broken clavicle, had two assists.

Mark Fayne, Zack Kassian, Andrej Sekera, Leon Draisaitl and Brandon Davidson also scored for the Oilers.

Flyers 6, Predators 3 — In Nashville, Wayne Simmonds had two goals and an assist and Claude Giroux scored twice to lead Philadelphia to its third straight win.

Scott Laughton and Jakub Voracek each had a pair of assists for the Flyers.

Ryan Johansen, Calle Jarnkrok and Shea Weber had the goals for Nashville, which has lost consecutive games.

Sharks 3, Blues 1 — Joonas Donskoi and Joe Thornton scored in the second period and Martin Jones made 26 saves to lead visiting San Jose.

Matt Nieto added an unassisted goal late in the third to give San Jose insurance. The Sharks, who are 8-1-2 in their last 11 games, improved to 17-7-2 away from home and tied Washington for the most road wins in the NHL.

Both goals for San Jose came during a 4-minute span in the second.

Donskoi banked a shot off the near post to break the scoreless tie at 3:55. He has 10 points, including four goals, in his last 12 games. His goal broke a shutout streak of 96 minutes, 59 seconds for Blues goalie Brian Elliott.
