Pipeline project is no path forward

The Globe story on gas pipelines (“Court rejects pipeline funding,’’ Page A1, Aug. 18) does not mention that our grandchildren’s fates depend on drastically reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Massachusetts Global Warming Solutions Act requires a whopping 80 percent reduction in emissions by 2050. Expanding gas infrastructure would put that goal out of reach, and jeopardize future generations.

Gas industry representatives claim their pipeline project would save New England $1 billion per year. On the other hand, the attorney general’s study concludes that energy efficiency and demand response would eliminate the need for a $3 billion pipeline and reduce energy costs. Only the latter approach would give our grandchildren a fighting chance.
