Recent bird sightings as reported to the Massachusetts Audubon Society:
►Plymouth: Highlights included two cackling geese, 215 gadwalls, four northern shovelers, 143 green-winged teal, 489 ring-necked ducks, a long-tailed duck, 512 buffleheads, 144 common goldeneyes, a Barrow’s goldeneye, 366 hooded mergansers, 435 ruddy ducks, 20 horned grebes, and a red-necked grebe.
►Plum Island: Reports from Parker River National Wildlife Refuge included four northern shovelers, 150 northern pintails, 50 green-winged teal, three harlequin ducks, two bald eagles, two rough-legged hawks, a snowy owl, and five purple finches.
►Newburyport: A pink-footed goose was spotted with a large flock of Canada geese on Scotland Road.
►Miscellaneous: Reports included a Bell’s vireo at the Holmes Farm in Plymouth; a western tanager at Dunback Meadow in Lexington; a redhead at the Mystic River Reservation in Medford; a late osprey in Plymouth; a golden eagle near the Winsor Dam at the Quabbin Reservoir; 11 sandhill cranes in Boxborough; two sandhill cranes in East Bridgewater; one sandhill crane in Swansea; a white-eyed vireo in East Gloucester; a yellow-bellied sapsucker at Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary in Lincoln; a late blue-gray gnatcatcher at Nantucket; and orange-crowned warblers at Millennium Park in West Roxbury and Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
