The Ivory Street entranceof the MBTA Braintree garage will be closed until Friday, March 25, as part of ongoing construction, according to the MBTA website. Commuters are encouraged to use the Union Street ramp on the other side of the building to enter the parking complex. The construction project is expected to continue through August of this year, limiting parking availability.
Six teachers south of Boston have been named winners of the Partners in Education award by the education reform group Mass Insight Educationfor their efforts in helping students excel in advanced placement courses. The six teachers are: Craig Berriault and John Flynn of Wareham High School; John Cerow, Steven Chamberlain, and Alyssa Chambers of Middleborough High School; and John Pinizotto of Weymouth High School. They will be honored from 6:30 to 9 p.m. April 5 at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. Each ofthe recipients will be recognized and receive a check for $1,000.
LStar, the new developer of the 1,500-acre SouthField community, which covers parts of Weymouth,Rockland, and Abington, has announced that construction of a park and recreation center there is scheduled to begin in October. The 25-acre space will accommodate hockey rinks for both ice and street hockey, a renovated gymnasium, lighted sports fields with both natural and artificial turf, a playground, an expanded dog park, and lighted tennis and basketball courts. The project is expected to take approximately a year to complete.
SHP Financialhas begun a community partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouthto provide funding, outreach, and volunteer support. The Plymouth-based financial planning and wealth management firm donated a “generous $5,000’’ to the nonprofit last fall, said Jim Middleton, Habitat’s executive director. He said the firm will host a community event this summer, with all proceeds going to Habitat, and will be coordinating volunteer days for its employees to work with the group.
