Bar none
By Michael Andor Brodeur

Ever hardy and resourceful, New Englanders know well how to make do with what they’ve got — which is a noble-sounding way of saying when it’s too cold to go outside, it’s probably also too cold to run to the liquor store.

Rather than waste perfectly good dregs in the spirit of blind experimentation, a new app called Old Sport can help you make the most of whatever is in your home bar at the moment. Simply log what spirits, liqueurs, mixe(u)rs, and bits of produce you have lying around, and Old Sport whips up a list of possible cocktail options (plus those you’re one or two ingredients shy of). You might have a Salty Chihuahua hiding in your cabinet and not even know it.

PRO Old Sport’s repertoire runs deep. My limited input turned up 30 or so potential cocktaily treats, none of which were too frightening to taste or make. Old Sport makes for a great cheat sheet for your home bar, provided you’re not the spilling type.

CON Drinking is bad? My apologies, I appear to be fresh out of problems. Can I offer you something else?
