We were fascinated by the article in Wednesday’s Globe about the growing popularity of elevators in private homes (“Giving themselves a lift,’’ Page A1, May 11).

By the time we read the front-page portion, we had pretty much decided to look into having one installed in our house.

However, when we got to the part about the price, we were appalled.

We did the math and decided it would be cheaper to hire someone to carry us up and down the stairs.
