Clockwise from top: A granite-topped counter that seats three and a row of upper cabinets with glass fronts separate the dining area and the kitchen; the main bath has a shower/tub combo with porcelain tile; the fireplace is the focal point of the living room; the guest bedroom; and the home, built in 1930, was converted into two condos in 2017 (both are on the market).

It’s not scientific fact, but there is a cousin to new-car smell: new-condo smell, a bouquet of fresh plaster and paint and still pungent polyurethane.

Built in 1930, this two-family — which now houses two condos — is redolent with this new-condo bouquet, thanks to recent renovations.

Aside from the smell, it’s absolutely clear as soon as you step in the door that this unit has undergone a transformation: The refinished original oak floors glisten, the walls are painted a neutral ash gray, and the ceilings are dotted with recessed lights.

In the foyer, there is the standard coat closet, as well as a mystery door with slats, like something you’d find in the tropics. Behind this door, however, is a closet that houses a stacked washer and dryer.

A set of French doors separates the foyer and the living room, where the visual centerpiece is the working fireplace. The firebox is painted black, and the brick surround is a glistening white. Crown molding, original to the home, complements the molding on the replacement windows found throughout the home.

The living room is open to the dining area, which boasts crown molding and the original corner hutch. A granite-topped counter that seats three and a row of upper cabinets with glass fronts separate the dining area and the kitchen. Here, the appliances are stainless steel, including the gas stove, and the solid-wood soft-close cabinets are white. A white subway tile backsplash completes the space. The flooring is new and oak. A door leads to a private deck.

From the kitchen, a short hallway connects to the bedrooms and main bath. The master suite, found on the left, features a 5-foot-long closet with bi-fold doors and a bath with a single granite-topped vanity, a porcelain-tile floor, clear-glass shower doors, and a shower backsplash of white subway tiles with a dark glass-tile inlay. Surprisingly, the second bedroom is a little bigger than the master, and so is its closet.

The main bath has a shower/tub combo, a porcelain-tile floor, and a single vanity topped with granite.

The unit includes three finished, heated bonus rooms in the basement, a total of 470 square feet of living space where there used to be a two-car garage. The space, not included in the total square footage for the home, has full-sized windows above grade. The rest of the basement is common space.

The backyard is flat with a new paving-stone parking apron flanked by grass. Each unit gets one deeded parking space, but the property is less than a 10-minute walk to the commuter rail.

The second-floor unit, which also has two bedrooms and two baths, is also for sale, priced at $544,000.
