The stars were out Tuesday for the Hingham Girls’ Hockey Showcase at Pilgrim Rink.

For No. 17 Hingham (10-5-6), the game against No. 7 Westford Academy was exciting until the final horn.

Down by one, on the power play, and with the net empty, Julianna Lynch scored her second goal of the game for Hingham with 40.1 seconds remaining to draw her team to a 2-2 tie with Westford (15-2-2).

“We worked hard, got to the net, Julianna, our top player, made the play,’’ said coach Tom Findley. “Not just the way we drew it up, but that’s what you want. We got pressure on the puck, a loose puck, and it went in.’’

Freshman goalie Leah White was key for Hingham, with crucial saves throughout, including a save on a breakaway and a follow-up rebound with a minute remaining to keep her team in the contest.

“Leah’s always there when we mess up, said junior defender Quinn Maguire. “She gets all those pucks that you miss, and we just try to get it out for her.’’

After the game, White was quick to deflect credit to her teammates.

“We have a great defense that always helps me out . . . they always make me look good,’’ said White.

After a scoreless first, Hingham opened the scoring midway through the second when senior Catherine Wilk batted down a puck and Lynch shot it into the net.

The lead wouldn’t stand for long, as Westford sophomore Kayleigh Butler tied it 22 seconds later, with an assist by senior Colleen Ellis.

Ellis got the go-ahead strike with a power-play goal late in the second.

After end-to-end action in the third, Hingham’s Madeline Young was able to draw a penalty to set up the tying sequence.

“That’s a great team over there,’’ said Findley. “Bobby Ware does a great job with that team, they’re well-coached, talented. I just thought it was a fun girls’ high school hockey game.’’

“It was a real good game against a good opponent in a good environment. Hey, it’s just one of those things,’’ said Westford coach Bob Ware. “Six on four at the end is hard to defend. But you know, I thought our girls played well, our girls fought.’’

Reading 4, Braintree 3 — Senior Michaela Boyle netted two goals and set up another as the fourth-ranked Rockets (16-2-1) edged the Wamps in the Hingham Showcase at Pilgrim Arena.

Senior Kaitlyn Yaxter (1 goal, 1 assist) opened the scoring for No. 20 Braintree (12-6-1) in the first period. Boyle scored 2:30 into the second period, 1:30 into the third, and assisted on Sydney Conte’s goal a minute later.

Masconomet 3, Winthrop 0 — Junior Lexi Rosenbaum scored a pair of goals 40 seconds apart on her first shift of the game and freshman Molly Elmore (34 saves) earned her fourth shutout as the Chieftains (9-7-3) qualified for the state tournament.

Arlington 1, Arlington Catholic 0 — Sophomore Erin O'Brien tipped in a shot by Jillian Danton with 1:35 in the first period and the lone goal held up as the Spy Ponders (9-6-3) qualified for the state tournament with a win in the Hingham Showcase. Senior goalie Jaz Mucci stopped 33 of 34 shots for AC.

St. Mary’s 8, Acton-Boxborough 2 — Defenseman Mady Hentosh had a goal and four assists as the No. 10 Spartans (13-3-3) struck for six goals in the third period. Senior Adara Nazarian netted a pair of goals.

Watertown 2, Wayland 1 — Olivia Lampasona scored both goals for the Raiders (8-11-2), with the winning goal coming at the 7:20 mark of the second period. Junior goalie Jonna Kennedy made 30 stops.

St. Paul’s 9, Governor’s Academy 1 — Gillis Frechette recorded a hat trick, and Phoebe Day netted her first varsity goal of the season to lead St. Paul’s.

Winchester 9, Marblehead 0 — Winchester moves on to face Masconomet in the Newburyport Bank Classic championship.

Boys’ hockeyQuincy 4, Whitman-Hanson 2 — Senior defenseman Owen Lynch scored the go-ahead goal with less than 30 seconds left as the host Presidents (7-10-3, 5-7-1) clinched a state tournament berth. His brother, Griffin, a sophomore, scored his second goal of the game just seconds later. Shamus McBride also had a goal.

Xaverian 6, Catholic Memorial 1 — The 14th-ranked Hawks (10-6-3) were powered by sophomore forward Egor Borshchev (two goals, assist) and senior forward Andrew McInerney (three assists).

Revere 6, Gloucester 4 — Senior forward Jim Gandolfo netted the winner with four minutes left in the third period for the Patriots (7-11-1).

Oliver Ames 8, Sandwich 0 — Senior Jack Maloney netted a hat trick to lead the Tigers.

Burlington 4, Medford 2 — Senior forward Joe Bertolami netted a pair of goals to help lift the Red Devils (15-4-2) in the Ed Cahoon Memorial Tournament. Burlington will play Framingham in the title game Thursday night.

Boys’ basketball

Rockland 74, Quincy 71 — Senior Jakigh Marcelin tallied a team-high 22 points, including 6 in overtime, to lead the Bulldogs (14-6). Senior Ugo Kamalu led the Presidents (13-7) with 17 points.

Gloucester 47, Winthrop 43 — Junior point guard Tayjuan McKenzie paced the Fishermen (8-11) with 22 points and classmate Devin Pulsifer added 13.

Franklin 70, Tech Boston 53 — Senior forward Josh Macchi dropped 15 points to lead the No. 10 Panthers (18-4).

South Boston 70, Fenway 54 — Senior guard Joseph Abioye (24 points) drained five 3-pointers as the Knights (6-12) closed their season with a win.

Newton South 66, Plymouth South 36 — Seniors Oskar Coulter (15 points) and Sasha Hoban (13 points, nine rebounds) powered the Lions (12-7).

Whitman-Hanson 62, Bridgewater-Raynham 55 — Senior Nikko Raftes (22 points) drilled six 3-pointers to pace the Panthers. Whitman-Hanson will play Pembroke in the Panther Winter Classic championship Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.

Pembroke 70, Marshfield 69 — Tyler Spencer put up a team-high 23 points and Rob Raleigh tallied 12 points on three 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter to lead the Titans in the Panther Winter Classic.

Latin Academy 71, Boston Latin 58 — Seniors Jeffry Marcellus (22 points) and Peter Tsagaroulis (15 points) paced the Dragons (15-4).

Canton 52, Archbishop Williams 33 — Junior forward Tony Harris led the Bulldogs (9-11) with 17 points. Senior Brian Albert added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Malden 70, Tewksbury 60 — Junior Louis LoConte drained 27 points for the Golden Tornadoes (14-5).

Southeastern 61, South Shore Voc-Tech 48 — Senior Dante Madero finished with 36 points for the Hawks.

Foxborough 68, Stoughton 56 — Foxborough captured the Warrior Classic tournament title.

Tantasqua 57, Randolph 56 — Adam Phillips had 15 points, Cameron Arello added 13 points and Mike Frio 12, including the winning layup, as the Warriors (9-10) rallied from 5 points down with 13 seconds left to edge the Blue Devils in the consolation of the Warrior Classic at Foxboro High. Frio also had seven steals, while Phillips grabbed seven rebounds and hit a 3-pointer and a foul shot with 13 seconds left that pulled Tantasqua within a point, 56-55.

Girls’ basketball

Foxborough 48, Lincoln-Sudbury 46 — Junior Ashley Sampson, who finished with 31 points, hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to send the game into overtime, and later won it for the 17th-ranked Warriors (18-2) with free throws.

Hopkinton 66, Medway 47 — Senior forward Mikayla Pucci recorded 15 points to lift the 14th-ranked Hillers (18-2).

South Shore Voc-Tech 38, Southeastern 36 — Rory Sneyd hit the game-tying basket in regulation and the winner with 1.5 seconds left in overtime to left to lift the Vikings (7-13). Cassidy Burt led South Shore with 14 points.

Pope John 49, Matignon 42 — The Tigers (15-5) were led by sophomore twins Korine Haidul (22 points, 16 rebounds) and Katty Haidul (19 points, 16 rebounds).

Greater New Bedford 55, Seekonk 44 — Senior forward Payton Wildrick (13 points, 15 rebounds), junior forward Sarah Duarte (9 points, 15 rebounds) and sophomore guard Jayda Fortin (15 points) led the Bears (14-8).

Marshfield 54, Bridgewater-Raynham 40 — Junior guard Cassie Caldwell netted 20 points and senior center Kristina Sargent produced 17 points and 17 rebounds to power the host Rams (16-4) to the nonleague win. Marissa Beauvais had 10 points for the Trojans (11-9).

Falmouth 54, Monomoy 19 — Senior Jenny DiCecco broke 1,000 career points on a breakaway layup in the third quarter and finished with 22 points for the Clippers (15-4).

Natick 71, Reading 48 — Madison Gizano and Skylar Range each netted 12 points for the Redhawks in the Ed Gieras Memorial Tournament. Natick will play Danvers in the championship.

Danvers 43, Newburyport 29 — The Falcons (10-9) qualified for the state tournament with help from Sarah Unczur (13 points).

Brockton 62, Oliver Ames 41 — Junior forward Annaleesia Fernandes scored 16 points with 15 rebounds for the Boxers (12-7). Senior Jalani Jackson added 15 points.

Medfield 60, Walpole 49 — Junior guard Maggie McCarthy scored 20 points with 11 rebounds and 7 assists for the 15th-ranked Warriors (18-2). Sophia Ouimette (29 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 steals over two games) was voted tournament MVP by the coaches.

North Andover 47, Melrose 42 — Emma Liporto (15 points, two steals), Faith Connors (12 points, four 3-pointers), and Rachel Davies (11 points, 13 rebounds) led the Knights (11-9).

Notre Dame (Hingham) 45, Burlington 36 — Sophomore Colleen Lahiff scored 12 points for the Cougars (7-13).

Northbridge 54, Weston 40 — Meghan Ferraro scored 16 points, while Mary McLaughlin and Jacqueline Puda both notched 13 points as the Rams (14-5) defeated the visiting Wildcats.
