Where Tony C’s Sports Bar & Grill at Assembly Row in Somerville
What An enormous “25’’ suspended from the restaurant ceiling
Whose Idea Tony C’s is named in honor of Tony Conigliaro, or Tony C, the Sox player whose career was cut short when he was hit in the face by a pitch in 1967. There is a movement to retire his number, 25. “The whole design is an homage to Tony C’s career with the Red Sox,’’ says Stephen Sousa, the principal of Sousa Design Architects, the firm behind the space. “Marquee letters are pretty prominent now in the design industry; in restaurants they’re a little bit overused. But there was a special element about displaying the number.’’ The “25’’ is in the Red Sox number font, made from aluminum with LED halo bulbs. How many bulbs? Sousa laughs. “I’m gonna say 25.’’
