Public protests by illegal immigrants are a slap in the face

I was amused at the photo above the June 24 op-ed “Immigrants could be driven deeper into shadows.’’ The photo was of an illegal immigrant protesting at the Supreme Court, and she definitely did not appear to be fearful of Immigration and Customs Enforcement coming to get her. She was definitely not in the shadows.

What I typically see is illegal immigrants out and proud — a girl speaking to her graduation class about her experience as an illegal immigrant, and the woman in the photo speaking into a microphone in front of the Supreme Court, protesting our laws.

They have demonstrated a lack of respect for our borders and for our laws. The fact that they flaunt their status without fear of repercussions is a slap in the face to America and to Americans who want a secure border and who want them to leave our country until they can manage to return legally.
