Quality pediatric care does not have to begin and end with Children’s

Your story about families who can no longer receive care at Boston Children’s Hospital due to insurance changes highlighted the risks of rising health care costs, but it did not offer a full picture of the pediatric care landscape in Boston and surrounding areas (“Health plan curtails access to Children’s’’).

One of the benefits of our area’s being an international hub for health care is that patients have options, and this is true for children as well as adults. As our state struggles with rising health care costs, it’s important to draw attention to the breadth of high-quality pediatric care offered in and around Boston, and to better recognize hospitals, such as the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, that deliver world-class care more affordably.

As a pediatrician who frequently refers patients to the Floating Hospital for high-level specialty care, I believe it’s important for parents to know that Boston is home to more than one historic, renowned hospital for children. It is important for the Globe to keep this in mind as well.
