Dr. Michael Newman has been named president of Hallmark Health Medical Associates. A board-certified gastroenterologist who has practiced on the North Shore for nearly 25 years, Newman had previously served as interim president for four months. He received his medical degree from New York University, and did his residency training at the University of Michigan Medical Center. A resident of North Andover, Newman has practiced medicine at Beverly Hospital as well as the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. Hallmark Health Medical Associates serves communities north of Boston, including Melrose and Lawrence.
Truven Health Analytics, an IBM company responsible for rating the quality and cost of health care, has selected North Shore Medical Center as one of the top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in the United States. The NSMC Heart Center, which has locations in Danvers, Lynn, and Salem. offers a broad range of services from general cardiology, diagnostic testing, and electrophysiology to lifesaving treatment for heart attacks, rhythm disorders, and other medical conditions.
Care Dimensions in Danvers, formerly Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, will be holding an eight-week training program for those interested in becoming direct patient service volunteers. Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone and Susan Terrey, the assistant undersecretary of the state Department of Housing and Community Development, were joined by Somerville Community Corporation at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new apartment complex at 181 Washington St. on Jan. 6. There are 35 apartments in the complex that already have been rented by tenants, with an additional 2,400 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. Before its redevelopment, the property was home to Pope Elementary School, and then was the Boys & Girls Club from 1980 to 2010.
