BERLIN — More than 80,000 people in two German cities were ordered to leave their homes as authorities prepared to dispose of two World War II-era bombs found during construction last week. In Koblenz, about 21,000 were displaced from homes, a prison, and a hospital as specialists defused a 1,100-pound US bomb Saturday. In Frankfurt, some 60,000 were ordered to leave a 1-mile radius around the site where a 1.8-ton British bomb was to be disposed of Sunday. (AP)

Storm weakens after killing four

CABO SAN LUCAS — A weakening Tropical Storm Lidia marched up Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula Saturday after flooding streets and homes in resort cities, stranding tourists, and leaving at least four people dead in Los Cabos. Lidia’s maximum sustained winds fell to 40 mph, just above the minimum threshold for a tropical storm. (AP)

Seven dead in fire at girls high school

NAIROBI — Seven girls died Saturday when a fire gutted their dormitory at a high school in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, the country’s Education Ministry said. The cause of the fire was unknown. Moi Girls High School will be closed for two weeks to allow for investigations. The fire triggered memories of the deaths of 67 students in a dorm fire at a school in eastern Kenya in 2001. (AP)
