Maybe it’s the short sidewalk of paving stones winding from the quiet street to the front porch, which in itself is a small affair, that creates the impression that this town house-style condo at The Field at Mainstone Farm is a small one.
What a mistake that is.
The foyer ceiling is about 20 feet high and graced by a large chandelier that looks something like the lantern hung at Old North Church to alert Paul Revere. A glance down the hallway lands on a series of windows that form the roughly 20-foot-high rear wall of the home. The flooring in the foyer is oak with a mahogany inlay.
This condo has three floors of living space and a mix of contemporary elements and classic architectural features. Arched doorways with Greek columns lead from the foyer to the living room, where there’s dentil crown molding and a fireplace mantel with rosettes and its own dentil molding. Steps away is a dining room that offers crown molding and a modern chandelier with panes of glass that hang like frozen sheets of rain. At the rear of the room, an archway, this one a plain vanilla curve, opens to a space that combines the kitchen and the great room, the spot with that wall of windows.
The kitchen offers high-end stainless-steel appliances and gorgeous cherry cabinetry — some of it floating, some with clear-glass doors. The sink is positioned in the center of a wraparound granite counter that marks the space between the kitchen and the great room. The peninsula offers room for seating.
There are two visual focuses for the great room: the traditional gas fireplace with the wood mantel and the view through the wall of windows out to the conservation land behind the condo. Even in December, the woods are eye-catching. A door here opens to a private deck.
A hallway off this space leads to the first-floor master suite, which looks out over the conservation land. The master features a coffered ceiling and two closets with built-in cabinetry (one is a walk-in) on the way to a master bath with a long double granite-topped vanity with cream-colored cabinetry underneath and a massive rectangular mirror above it. The bath has a deep bathtub, a separate shower, and a tile floor.
There is also a half bath on the main floor with a single granite-topped vanity and a tile floor, as well as a laundry room accessed via the master bath and hallway. The flooring throughout the rest of the first floor is oak.
A stairway in the family room leads to a loft now filled with furniture the owners collected during their world travels, furniture that includes a large wooden couch said to have been used in an opium den.
On this level, there are two bedrooms, an office, and a full bath. Both of the bathrooms on this floor have single vanities with granite counters, tile floors, and tub/shower combos.
The basement is finished except for the utility/storage area, offering an additional 1,403 square feet of living space. The finished sections are divided into a large room and two small rooms. One of the small rooms currently accommodates a grand piano without issue. The floor is carpeted.
The unit comes with an attached two-car garage and a paver driveway. There are 17 units in the development.
