Man Booker International Prize awarded

South Korean author Han Kang has won the Man Booker International Prize for fiction with ‘‘The Vegetarian,’’ an unsettling novel about a woman whose decision to stop eating meat has devastating consequences. The 50,000-pound ($72,000) prize, awarded at a ceremony in London on Monday, will be split evenly between Han and her 28-year-old translator, Deborah Smith, who only began learning Korean seven years ago. Sinead O’Connor safe

Singer Sinead O’Connor, who’d been MIA since Sunday, has been found safe. Police in Wilmette, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, said O’Connor had been located, but didn’t say where she was found. The singer ‘‘is safe and no longer considered a missing or endangered person,’’ police said. Earlier Monday, police released a statement saying O’Connor went for a bicycle ride at 6 a.m. Sunday and hadn’t been seen since. (At 9 a.m. Sunday, she’d posted a disjointed paragraph apparently intended for her son.) Police had no other information.

Ifill to return to PBS

PBS’s Gwen Ifill is ‘‘doing well’’ and plans to return to the air around Memorial Day, the network said Monday. The ‘‘PBS NewsHour’’ coanchor informed her audience on April 7 that she would be on a brief leave. PBS said she is taking the hiatus to address some ongoing health issues. (AP)
