Your recent piece on Stan Rosenberg’s enduring support in his district contained some misrepresentations, and I’d like to set the record straight (“At home, ex-Senate chief still admired,’’ Metro, May 21). First, some of his former constituents are younger than 60. Second, not everyone here is sorry to see Senator Rosenberg resign.
The senator did great work on behalf of his district for many years, and brought needed visibility to issues many in the Commonwealth face. But I’m not alone in thinking quite differently of him since the allegations broke surrounding his estranged husband, and I believe his only mistake in resigning was not to have done so much earlier, when he could have saved the public a lot of money and the Legislature a lot of time.
I was thrilled when Chelsea Kline entered the race, a particularly courageous move given the tough uphill battle she was going to have to fight against the beloved incumbent. She, like many of us here, recognized that it’s time for a change.
Western Massachusetts has a good chance to elect a delegation full of strong progressive women to Beacon Hill this year, and to send an amazing progressive black Muslim woman, Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, to Congress. That’s the story you should be covering.
