If anything, Trump ties give Pats boost

Christopher Gasper’s“Patriots, politics don’t mix’’ (Sports, Feb. 14) makes one huge assumption — that Robert Kraft’s, Bill Belichick’s, and Tom Brady’s relationships with Donald Trump will negatively affect the New England Patriots. I would counter that these ties help the team.

I believe that the majority of the Patriot fan base — those who buy Patriots hats, shirts, and car decals; who watch the games at the local sports bar; and who occasionally get a ticket to a game — support Trump policies.

Liberal fans who are season ticket holders may not like it, but I doubt they will give up their tickets. Conservative season ticket holders will support Kraft, Belichick, and Brady even more.

Corporate sponsors can’t afford to dis the Patriots by saying or doing anything negative. Actually, from a geographic New England perspective, the Patriots can’t be slowed down as a marketing tool.

The bottom line is that I think the team is stronger with a Trump hat in Brady’s locker.
