Even though Victorio Nakata has been across the globe taking photos of breathtaking oceans and exotic islands, he really enjoys shooting in New England because of the starkly different seasons. Nakata was born to Japanese parents in Buenos Aires, and has lived all over. The 36-year-old Cambridge resident enjoys finding the beauty in life and sharing that on his Instagram account @vic_nkt.
Q. How did you get into photography?
A. I started taking photos as a hobby about 10 years ago or so just because, at that time, I liked to travel and I was travelling to so many countries that I wanted to share my experiences through the photos I took of those places.
Q. Favorite places that you’ve been to outside of New England?
A. There are so many so it’s hard to decide. Originally, I liked to take pictures of nature, so when I started to travel I went to many countries . . . in Southeast Asia like Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Cambodia, and I liked the nature of those countries but also the beautiful ocean that they have. Those are the places that I enjoyed taking pictures before I came to Boston.
Q. What do you think of New England scenery compared to the other places you’ve visited/lived?
A. I like Boston because it has an old-fashioned feel, the old buildings -- they are more than 100 years old in the city. I like to take pictures around the city but there are also mountains and beaches and snow, which I love taking pictures of. New England has four seasons, and taking photos at different points of the year brings much different results. With autumn and the fall colors, spring with a lot of flowers, New England has all of the seasons, and I enjoy that.
Q. Where do you like to photograph outside of the city?
A. I like to take pictures on Nantucket. I think it’s a nice place and I also like to go to towns or cities near the port. Places near the ocean are the types of places I like to take photos because of the beauty with the city and the harbor with the boats.
Q. Do you have a particular theme you are trying to carry throughout your Instagram?
A. I don’t have a specific thing that I want to say on Instagram. I just take any type of picture I want. I don’t want to limit my Instagram to only one thing; I just want to take pictures of what I want or take pictures of what I find beautiful. If something impresses me I just want to share that with other people. For example, I don’t want to just take pictures of the city or just nature or just people. I just take pictures of things I think are beautiful.
