Matt Kemp is returning to the place where he began his major league career, reacquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday as part of a five-player trade with the Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers sent first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, oft-injured starting pitchers Scott Kazmir and Brandon McCarthy, infielder Charlie Culberson, and cash to Atlanta for the 33-year-old Kemp, who played for Los Angeles from 2006-14. Gonzalez was designated for assignment by the Braves. The Dodgers dumped nearly $50 million in salary committed to Gonzalez, Kazmir, and McCarthy for 2018 . . . Pitcher C.C. Sabathia agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal to return to the New York Yankees, according to multiple reports. The deal is pending a physical as Sabathia, 37, has a recent history of knee problems. Sabathia was 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 2017.

Luwane Pipkins scored 10 of his 17 points in the opening five minutes, Carl Pierre had 15 points on five 3-pointers, and UMass (6-5) upset Georgia (7-2), 72-62, in men’s basketball in Amherst. The Minutemen led by 22 points in the first half and it was 43-24 at halftime after UMass made 56.7 percent of its shots, including 8 of 13 3-pointers. The Minutemen had 13 assists on 17 field goals . . . Freshman Trae Young had 29 points and 10 assists, lifting visiting Oklahoma (8-1) to 91-83 victory against third-ranked Wichita State (8-2) . . . In men’s hockey, Cayden Primeau stopped 29 shots and Adam Gaudette scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season as No. 8 Northeastern (10-5-2, 8-3-1 Hockey East) skated to a 1-1 tie with host Merrimack (4-9-4, 2-6-2).

Breakthrough win for Vonn
Skier Lindsey Vonn sped to an emotional win in a World Cup super-G race in Val d'Isere, France. It was her first win of a difficult season so far, one marred by a crash and a recent back injury. Vonn’s time was 1 minute, 4.86 seconds . . . Maame Biney, 17, became the first black woman to qualify for a US Olympic speedskating team with a pair of victories in the 500 meters in Kearns, Utah. Biney will be the second black speedskater on a US Olympic team. Shani Davis was 19 when he qualified for the short track team in 2002 . . . Haley Irwin and Sarah Nurse scored in the second period, sending Canada to a 3-1 victory over the United States on Friday night in San Jose, Calif., in the latest Olympic tuneup between the world’s top powers in women’s hockey.

Ex-wife charged in murder
The ex-wife of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright was charged with first-degree murder in his slaying, more than seven years after his body was found in a field in his hometown of Memphis. Police and federal marshals in Riverside County, Calif., arrested 46-year-old Sherra Wright on Friday night on a fugitive from justice warrant, online records show. Wright’s body was found on July 28, 2010 — 10 days after he was reported missing. He was shot multiple times. A release from the Shelby County District Attorney’s office said Billy R. Turner, indicted for first-degree murder Dec. 5 in Wright’s death, and Sherra Wright conspired to kill Lorenzen Wright . . . Carmelo Anthony got the cheers in his return to New York, but the Knicks got their fourth straight victory, shutting out their former All-Star in the second half and beating the Oklahoma City Thunder, 111-96. It was Anthony’s first game back at Madison Square Garden since the Knicks traded him three months ago. He scored 12 points in the first half but was 0 for 5 in the second . . . LeBron James had 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists for his 60th career triple-double to help the host Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Utah Jazz, 109-100.

Packers activate Rodgers
The Green Bay Packers activated quarterback Aaron Rodgers from injured reserve, a day before he starts in a must-win game at Carolina. Rodgers broke his right collarbone at Minnesota on Oct. 15, had surgery, and was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 20. He returned to practice on a limited basis Dec. 2, was cleared by the team's medical staff Tuesday night, and took the first-team reps this week . . . Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette, second among rookies in rushing — and seventh overall — with 923 yards, will not play against Houston on Sunday because of a quad injury, ESPN.com reported . . .
