BOSTON

Boy, 14, charged with carrying gun

Boston Police arrested a 14-year-old Hyde Park boy for allegedly carrying a loaded gun near Humboldt Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a police statement. Two officers patrolling the area saw two males dressed in sweat shirts with the hoods up. Given the heat and humidity, the officers surmised they might be hiding weapons in their bulky clothes. One boy also appeared to be holding something in his waistband. As officers approached, the boy allegedly fled. One officer chased him through several yards and onto Ruthven Street, where the boy fell and the officer heard a thud, the statement said. The sound turned out to be a loaded semi-automatic Star Firestar pistol hitting the ground. The boy is being charged as a juvenile with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and unlawfully carrying a loaded gun. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Suffolk County Juvenile Court, according to police spokeswoman Rachel McGuire.

Man pleads guilty to online sex crime

A Plymouth man has admitted to trying to entice a person he believed to be a 14-year-old Rhode Island boy to have sex with him. Christopher Chassey, 49, pleaded guilty Friday to enticement to travel interstate to engage in illicit sexual activity, according to Rhode Island US Attorney Peter Neronha. Authorities began investigating Chassey in April 2015 after a member of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force answered an online ad seeking sex in exchange for cash posing as a 14-year-old boy. Police say Chassey sent the fictitious boy hundreds of sexually explicit e-mails and mailed him $100 last year so the boy could purchase a bus ticket to Plymouth. Chassey is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 14. (AP)

A Swampscott homeowner was arrested and charged with arson on Saturday night after a three-alarm fire tore through his home, town officials said.
