Heat end skid at six games

Dion Waiters scored 23 points and the Heat beat the Milwaukee Bucks, 96-73, in Miami to end a six-game losing streak Thursday night.

Josh Richardson added 18 points, and Hassan Whiteside had 12 points, 17 rebounds, and 8 blocks. The losing streak was the Heat’s longest since 2008.

Point guard Goran Dragic returned for the Heat after missing three games with a sprained left ankle. He had 16 points in 36 minutes.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Tony Snell each had 14 points for Milwaukee. The Bucks have lost four of five.

Richardson hit a corner 3, Whiteside blocked a lay-up attempt by Antetokounmpo, and Dragic hit a 3 in a flurry of big plays to give Miami an 80-69 lead with seven minutes left. The Heat held on the rest of the way, with a 3 by Waiters making it 88-73 with 3:31 left.

Miami outscored Milwaukee 29-11 in the fourth quarter.

The Bucks entered the game leading the NBA in points in the paint, averaging 49.8 a game after leading the league a year ago, but were held to 34 and just 10 in the second half.

Milwaukee jumped out to a 20-6 lead, which included three impressive dunks by Jabari Parker, including taking one around-the-back on a dribble to avoid Richardson, and holding the Heat to 3-for-18 shooting.

Miami quickly bounced back as Tyler Johnson’s 3 gave the Heat a 30-27 lead and the teams were knotted at 48 at the break.

Josh Richardson hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Heat during a 13-4 run in the third quarter to give Miami a 65-54 lead.

Miami led 67-62 to start the fourth quarter.

Wizards 119, Knicks 112 — John Wall scored 23 points and had 11 assists and Otto Porter added 21 points as Washington won for just the third time in 11 games, beating New York at home.

The Wizards, who had lost three straight, took the lead late in the first quarter, led by 10 at halftime, and by 27 late in the third quarter.

New York trailed 108-86 with 4:33 play before scoring 12 straight points. Wall hit two late baskets and four free throws to secure the win.

New York, which allowed a season high in points, was led by Derrick Rose with 27.

Carmelo Anthony scored 19.

Kristaps Porzingis, who scored a career-high 35 points on Wednesday in a win over Detroit, had 16.

Brandon Jennings scored 15 of his season-high 17 points in the fourth quarter for the Knicks.

Wall played 31 minutes in his first back-to-back action of the season, a night after he logged 24 in a loss at Philadelphia.

Wizards coach Scott Brooks had been avoiding Wall in early-season back-to-backs because of the star point guard’s offseason knee surgery.

Washington’s bench, which center Marcin Gortat labeled ‘‘one of the worst in the league right now’’ after Saturday’s loss in Chicago, had a stronger performance.

Marcus Thornton had 13 points, making all three 3-point shots.

Timberwolves 110, 76ers 86 — Andrew Wiggins had 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists to lead Minnesota past Philadelphia, which lost its 21st straight road game.

Karl-Anthony Towns added 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Gorgui Dieng had 12 points and 10 boards.

Joel Embiid had 10 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes after sitting out the front end of Philadelphia’s back-to-back Wednesday night.

Rockets 126, Trail Blazers 109James Harden had 26 points, 14 assists, and 12 rebounds for his third triple-double of the season, helping host Houston beat Portland.

Harden completed the triple-double in the third quarter.

The Rockets rebounded a night after scoring just three points in the final six minutes in a 105-103 loss in Oklahoma City.

C.J. McCollum led Portland with 26 points, Maurice Harkless had 19, and Damian Lillard 18, his second-lowest output of the season.

Rockets starting point guard Patrick Beverley made his season debut after missing the first 11 games following arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Limited to 25 minutes, Beverley had 11 points, three assists and three blocks.
