REVERE — Lexington’s Anna Kelly surpassed 2,000 points in her career, but the Revere girls’ basketball team came roaring back in the second half on Saturday night to claim a 64-45 home win in a Division 1 North quarterfinal game.

Sophomores Pamela Gonzalez (27 points) and Valentina Pepic (19 points, 11 rebounds) fueled the surge for the Patriots, who outscored the Minutemen, 45-13, in the second half.

Early on, Kelly controlled play. She had 24 points in the first half for Lexington (18-6) and hit the milestone with a layup and free throw with 6:16 left in the second quarter. Kelly became the 65th player in state history to reach 2,000 points.

“[Kelly] is an excellent player,’’ Revere coach Diana Finn said. “She is one of the best I have ever seen in Massachussets.’’

The Patriots seemed to have no answer for Kelly as Lexington held a 32-19 lead entering halftime.

But, in the second half, Revere (19-5) fired back.

Senior Maritza Scott had a steal and a layup, pulling the Patriots within 3 points with 2:40 left in the third quarter.

A layup minutes later by Pepic gave Revere a 39-38 lead and capped a 20-6 run.

The Patriots never looked back and held until the final buzzer.

Revere confined Kelly to only 8 points in the second half. She fouled out with 3:36 left in the game.

Kelly finished with 32 points in the game and 2,015 points in her high school career.

“I was happy with our teamwork in the second half. I knew we were going to come back because of our defense’’ said Finn.

Revere plays Lowell in the semifinals on Tuesday at Whittier Regional at 7 p.m.
