A 47-year-old man was arraigned in connection with the death of an Everett artist, the Middlesex District Attorney’s office said Wednesday.

David Grossack was ordered held without bail during his arraignment Wednesday morning in Malden District Court, according to Meghan Kelly, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

He is next due back in court for a probable cause hearing on April 28.

He was taken into custody Tuesday by Pittsfield police.

Prosecutors issued an arrest warrant earlier this month for Grossack, who’s accused of killing Francis Brescia, 65.

Brescia was found dead in his Oakland Avenue apartment on Feb. 25, his body badly decomposed.

At that time, prosecutors said they believed his killing was not a random crime. The DA’s office did not release the cause of death, citing the ongoing investigation.

Brescia turned to art in his later years after, by his admission, previously struggling with addiction.

Grossack was believed to be homeless and last was seen in the Boston area, prosecutors had said. They did not say how long they believed Grossack had been in Pittsfield.
