Two years removed from a lengthy stint as the Patriots offensive line coach, it appears Dante Scarnecchia is ready to start another one.

According to an ESPN report, Scarnecchia and the Patriots agreed Tuesday on a deal that would bring the 68-year-old back to the team as its offensive line coach.

Scarnecchia directed the Patriots offensive line from 2000-13, and has spent 30 seasons with the team, which hired the coach away from Southern Methodist University in 1982. He’s also spent time coaching the Patriots tight ends, linebackers, and special teams.

After Scarnecchia retired following the 2013 season, the Patriots hired Dave DeGuglielmo, and gave him a two-year deal. Once the contract ran its course this past season, it was decided DeGuglielmo would not return. He was hired by the Chargers late last month as their assistant offensive line coach.

Offensive line was a problem area for the Patriots this season. Tom Brady was sacked 38 times in the regular season, then was hit a season-high 20 times (four sacks) in the AFC Championship game loss at Denver.
