Jewish film fest to host ‘Ben-Hur’ premiere

The Boston Jewish Film Festival announced that it will host a special premiere screening of “Ben-Hur’’ on Aug. 18. The film is a new adaptation of the classic biblical tale with a cast that includes Morgan Freeman and Jack Huston(pictured) from “Boardwalk Empire.’’ “We’re pleased and thrilled to be bringing a blockbuster such as this to the Boston area,’’ said Jaymie Saks, executive director of the Boston Jewish Film Festival. Saks said the BJFF takes place in November (this will be the 28th year) but it also provides programming throughout the year, and this screening is one example. “Ben-Hur’’ will open in theaters Aug. 19, but the BJFF premiere will take place Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at AMC Loews Boston Common 19. Producer Joni Levinand screenwriter Keith Clarkewill be there to discuss the film with the audience after the screening.
