WASHINGTON — April the giraffe let April Fools’ Day pass without going into labor, but zoo officials say she is ready to give birth at any time.

‘‘Our big girl is comfortable, confident, and continues to keep her composure — better than the rest of us!’’ staffers at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, N.Y., wrote Saturday on Facebook.

By Sunday morning, the giraffe was staring placidly at her stablemate while some 150,000 people watched her live video feed.

April’s enormous fan club has been waiting for weeks for the birth. The giraffe obtained celebrity status in February when Animal Adventure Park launched a live stream on YouTube to let the world watch.

Female giraffes have an average gestation period of about 15 months, or 453 to 464 days. April is between 15 and 16 months pregnant.
