Sidney Crosby, Beau Bennett, and Patric Hornqvist each scored to help build an early lead, and the Pittsburgh Penguins went on to defeat the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, 6-2, for their sixth straight win.
Crosby scored his 33rd goal, Hornqvist his 21st, and Bennett his sixth, as the Penguins jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the second period. Carl Hagelin added his 12th, and Eric Fehr scored twice in the third for the Penguins, who won for the 12th time in 13 games.
The Penguins secured a berth in the playoffs for the 10th straight season.
Blues 5, Avalanche 1 — David Backes started the scoring in a three-goal first period and Anders Nilsson made 19 saves in relief of an injured Jake Allen, as St. Louis pushed Colorado to the brink of elimination.
Magnus Paajarvi, Colton Parayko, Alex Pietrangelo, and Troy Brouwer also scored for the Blues.
Jets 5, Wild 1 — Mark Scheifele scored his 27th goal as Winnipeg won its last home game of the season. The Wild dropped their third straight and squandered a chance to clinch a playoff spot.
Fans gave the Jets a standing ovation, chanting, ‘‘Go Jets Go!’’ during the final minute. The players raised their sticks to salute the crown after the final buzzer sounded.
Ducks 3, Stars 1 — Ryan Kesler scored a shorthaded goal 10 second into the third and Ryan Getzlaf scored an empty-netter with 22 seconds to play for host Anaheim, which, returned to the top of the Pacific Division.
