Jamaica Plain celebrated Three Kings Day with a fiesta for all ages on Friday.

The festivities, sponsored by the Hyde Square Task Force, marked the day that the Three Magi, or kings, arrived with gifts for the newborn Jesus. Festivities began Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Connolly Public Library in Hyde Square with children’s arts and crafts, and the Three Kings will pay a visit to give away children’s books.

At 4:15 p.m., revelers made their way down Centre Street and joined in a parranda, a Puerto Rican tradition where groups walk the street and sing in celebration, similar to Christmas caroling.

As part of the parranda,organizers arranged for live Latin American holiday music.

The celebration was a part of a broad effort to turn the Hyde Square neighborhood into Boston’s Latin Quarter, an effort that was rewarded in 2015, when the Boston City Council unanimously voted to give Hyde Square that title.

The Hyde Square Task Force, founded in the late 1980s, is dedicated to improving the lives of young people by getting them involved in the community at a young age.

The parranda ended at the Re/Max Destiny, a real estate office, on Centre Street, where hot chocolate and candy were served. There was also a reading about the Three Kings.
