Alex Murphy had 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots, T.J. Williams scored 17 points, and Northeastern rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat host Vermont, 59-57, on Saturday.
Williams had a steal and then hit a 3-pointer to cap a 21-4 run that gave Northeastern (5-5) a 54-47 lead with 2:31 left. Murphy’s 3-point play during that stretch gave the Huskies their first lead of the game, 49-47, with five minutes to play.
Trae Bell-Haynes, who led Vermont (7-4) with 15 points, hit Payton Henson for a layup and then made one of his own to make it 56-all with 42 seconds left.
But after Jeremy Miller’s layup on the other end, Vermont missed its final three field goal attempts and made just 1 of 2 free throws, and Northeastern held on.
Northeastern shot 34.8 percent and committed 13 turnovers during an 18-point first half — its lowest scoring half of the season. The Huskies made 17 of 25 (68 percent) from the field after halftime.
Syracuse 99, BU 77 — John Gillon and Taurean Thompson came off the bench to score career highs of 23 and 22 points, respectively, and lead the Orange (6-3) over the Terriers (4-6). Cedric Hankerson scored 34 points for BU.
Ohio State 64, UConn 60 — Trever Thompson (17 points, 17 rebounds) had a double-double to push the host Buckeyes (8-2) past the Huskies (4-5).
New Hampshire 86, Bryant 73 — Jaleen Smith and Daniel Dion combined for 52 points as the Wildcats (7-3) bested the host Bulldogs (3-8).
Maine 73, Dartmouth 68 — Behind a 31-point performance by Wesley Myers, the Black Bears (4-6) finished on a 6-0 run to knock off the host Big Green (0-8).
Women’s basketball
BC 57, Providence 53 — Mariella Fasoula scored 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting to help lift the host Eagles (4-6) over the Friars (7-3).
Marist 76, BU 57— Sophie Beaudry had 20 points for the Terriers (1-8), but visiting BU fell to the Red Foxes (2-7).
UMass 68, Bryant 62 — The Minutemen (5-5) exploded for a 16-0 run in the second half and got a 16-point effort by Hailey Leidel to beat the Bulldogs (4-5).
Holy Cross 62, UMass Lowell 47 — The host Crusaders (2-7) were led by Lauren Manis’s 22 points in defeating the River Hawks (1-9).
Maine 60, Dartmouth 55 — Laia Sole and Sigi Koizar each scored 15 points as the host Black Bears (5-5) claimed victory over the Big Green (3-5).
Men’s hockey
Notre Dame 3, BC 2 — Anders Bjork scored twice in the second period as the 12th-ranked Fighting Irish (9-6-2, 5-3-1 Hockey East) rallied at home to top the No. 4 Eagles (13-6-1, 8-1-1).
BU 4, Vermont 0 — The fifth-ranked Terriers (9-5-2, 4-2-2 Hockey East) scored three times in the third to skate past the No. 12 Catamounts (10-4-2, 5-3-1) in Burlington, Vt.
UMass Lowell 5, Merrimack 1 — Five players scored to lift the ninth-ranked River Hawks (10-5-3, 6-3-1 Hockey East) over the host Warriors (6-8-3, 1-4-3).
Women’s hockey
BU 6, Minnesota 5 — Natalie Flynn scored the winning goal 1:40 into overtime for the host Terriers (12-7-1) after the second-ranked Golden Gophers (13-4-3) forced OT with two late goals. Erin O’Neil made 44 saves in the win.
New Hampshire 5, Yale 3 — Carlee Turner (1 goal, 1 assist) and Meghara McManus (3 assists) helped lead the Wildcats (8-11-1) past the host Bulldogs (4-7-2).
Maine 3, Union 1 — Tereza Vanisova scored twice to power the host Black Bears (6-12-1) over the Dutchmen (2-16-0).
Vermont 4, Dartmouth 3 — The Catamounts (7-6-4) had four goals scored by different players in beating the host Big Green (2-10-0).
