Cruz doesn’t get the nod from Jerry Falwell Jr.
Senator Ted Cruz was on a roll — until he wasn’t. Earlier this month, he led businessman Donald Trump in polls of the Iowa caucuses, which kick off the presidential nominating contests on Feb. 1. But in the past couple weeks, Trump has moved ahead of Cruz again in those polls. To make matters worse for the Texan — who has doggedly courted the country’s evangelicals in his campaign — he also lost a key endorsement, Jerry Falwell Jr., to Trump. That’s got to sting Cruz, who announced his presidential campaign at Falwell’s Liberty University in March. This is not the trajectory Cruz wants in the days before the caucuses.
