This week’s release of the real-life Coast Guard rescue drama “The Finest Hours’’ (2016) makes for a fine couple of hours itself, partly thanks to a bonus segment offering an even deeper look at the story’s Chatham setting. Taking us back to 1952, the film spotlights the bravery of Bernie Webber (Chris Pine) and his crewmates as they struggle to aid an oil tanker bisected by a vicious winter storm. The action also follows resourceful tanker engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) and his desperate group as they fight for survival. It’s solid if tonally heightened work all around, especially from Pine, whose quaint, quiet diffidence is a long way from Captain Kirk’s swagger. Extras: The Blu-ray’s brisk centerpiece featurette interviews several folks intimately familiar with the story, including Webber’s daughter, who sweetly remembers her late father as “a really mellow guy.’’ One local woman recalls spotting one of the distressed boats from her window; another shares her memory of giving birth on the night of the rescue, and waiting as her doctor shuttled between maternity and the pier. Then there’s journalist Casey Sherman, who teamed with Michael J. Tougias to write the book on which the film is based, and clearly knows how to sell their story. (Sherman’s latest, “Boston Strong,’’ is part of the basis for Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming “Patriots Day.’’) “This is a movie about superheroes, [only] they don’t wear capes,’’ Sherman says. “They wear hand-me-down foul weather gear and galoshes from World War II.’’ (Disney, $29.99; Blu-ray, $39.99)
COMEDY
ZOOLANDER 2 (2016)
It’s nothing surprising to see Ben Stiller in a sequel — he’s gone back to the well on “Night at the Museum,’’ “Meet the Parents,’’ and “Madagascar.’’ But we didn’t figure to catch him reprising ultra-fabulous fashionisto Derek Zoolander after a decade and a half. This one might have fizzled in theaters, but it makes us wonder: Could some other encore be next? We’ll guess that even the most shameless glommers of the superhero zeitgeist would view “Mystery Men 2’’ as a bad idea. But as for Stiller’s awesomely mustachioed “Dodgeball’’ foil — rematch, anyone? (Paramount, $29.99; Blu-ray, $39.99)
THRILLER
MANHUNTER (1986)
Revisiting Michael Mann’s take on Thomas Harris’s “Red Dragon’’ is a pretty intriguing diversion, given how many different Hannibal Lecter interpretations we’ve had by this point, and how far removed we now are from “Miami Vice.’’ This Blu-ray reissue features new interviews with lead William Petersen, Hannibal the Cannibal tone-setter Brian Cox, and castmates Tom Noonan and Joan Allen. There’s also a segment with cinematographer Dante Spinotti, and fresh material on the music. Nothing new from Mann himself, alas — we’ll hope and assume he was busy with his forthcoming “Heat’’ prequel novel, and that some old friend wasn’t having him for dinner. (Shout! Factory, $34.93)
