Daniel Webster College closes permanently
Daniel Webster College in Nashua has officially shut down, with many of its students and staff going to Southern New Hampshire University. The college, once known for its flight program, was sold in 2009 to ITT Educational Services, a for-profit company that announced last year it was shutting down nationwide. In September, Southern New Hampshire University agreed to step in and help ensure that seniors could graduate on time and those with more than a year to go could transfer elsewhere. (AP)

Official in dark about election integrity panel
New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner says he has heard almost nothing from the White House in the two weeks since he agreed to join President Donald Trump’s election integrity commission. Gardner told the Concord Monitor he got a call May 10 letting him know that the commission’s creation was going public but he doesn’t know when it will start meeting, how much time it will take, or what his role includes. N.H. Democrats and advocacy groups call the commission a sham and worry Trump will use Gardner to push unsubstantiated claims that millions of people voted illegally. (AP)

Lawyer sues state over public records request
The governor’s office says it’s facing a mountain of public records requests, but one law firm isn’t waiting for its documents so patiently. Andrew Schmidt Law filed a lawsuit against the state, saying it’s been waiting for six months to get information behind Republican Governor Paul LePage’s decision to withdraw from the refugee resettlement program. But LePage’s office says it received more than 1,000 requests for public documents in 2016 alone. (AP)

Hiker falls to his death on rocky hillside
Connecticut environmental authorities say a man who fell about 100 feet from a cliff while hiking at Ross Pond State Park has died. Environmental Conservation Police say 37-year-old Merton Hart III, of Killingly, was hiking with his wife, another person, and his three young children when he fell just before 3 p.m. Sunday. Police say Hart had been hiking along the top of a rocky overlook above a pond and fell to a rocky hillside below. (AP)

Lawmakers face key deadline on bills
New Hampshire lawmakers face a key deadline this week as they move toward wrapping up the legislative session. Thursday is the last day for the House and Senate to act on bills that originated in the opposite chamber. The Senate is set to meet on Wednesday and Thursday, while the House is in session Thursday. Among other bills, the Senate is voting on an $11.8 billion, two-year budget plan. The House, which failed to pass its own version of the budget, could concur with the Senate version or request a committee of conference to provide its input. The deadline to act on all committee of conference reports is June 22. (AP)
