Old Colony Elder Services, a Brockton-based regional nonprofit serving seniors and people with disabilities, is adding a new office in Plymouth. Serving 23 communities, most in Plymouth County, the organization has outgrown its headquarters, said executive assistant Barbara Bartone. Old Colony employs some 240 people, 25 of whom have been transferred to the Plymouth location, which is built to accommodate 50. Both offices are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Milford-based entertainment company PiNZ will be opening a new 36,000-square-foot location in the Kingston Collection. The space will feature 16 luxury bowling lanes, two bars, live performances by local artists, 50 arcade games, and corporate meeting rooms. The kitchen will offer pub-style food with specialty pizzas to be paired with cocktails, wine, and a mix of craft and local beers. Catering is available, and corporate and group events are welcome. CEO David Breen said the opening date is scheduled for September, but that hours of operation have not been determined.
Biopharmaceutical company Shire PLC has donated $25,000 to the Jewish Vocational Services Bridges to College program to educate underprivileged people without the educational or financial wherewithal to enroll in Quincy College’s Biotechnological and Compliance program. The college readiness program gives aspiring students the scientific and mathematical foundation to enroll in the college’s 10-month program, from which Shire has hired in the past. College spokesman Taggart Boyle said this grant will support summer enrollment, which includes students from underserved communities in Quincy and surrounding areas.
HarborOne Bank of Mansfield is hosting a “Shark Tank’’ competition for entrepreneurs to take a shot at a $2,500 prize. Eight competitors have been selected from an application pool of about 50, said bank vice president Maureen Wilkinson. Each participant will present his or her idea to a panel of three, including a bank commercial lending officer, a Brockton city councilor, and a Stonehill College business professor. Four will be selected for the second round, which will feature two-minute oral pitches. In addition to the $2,500 first prize, the second- and third-place finishers will win $1,000 each.
