A week after naming Ryan Reynolds its 2017 Man of the Year, Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals has announced that Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer (right) is the recipient of the 2017 Woman of the Year Award. The Hasty Pudding cited Spencer’s “depth of talent,’’ and “comedic wit,’’ and “graceful portrayals of the underrepresented.’’ The award will be presented Jan. 26 following a parade through Harvard Square. Spencer won an Oscar for her performance in “The Help,’’ and currently stars in “Hidden Figures,’’ a film about several African-American women who helped NASA launch its early successful space missions. Previous Woman of the Year recipients include Meryl Streep, Debbie Reynolds, Katharine Hepburn, Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, Helen Mirren, and Kerry Washington.
