Behind a game-high 18 points from senior Keelah Dixon and 17 from sophomore Adriana Timberlake, the fourth-ranked Braintree High girls’ basketball team handed top-ranked Revere its first loss, 71-46, in the Comcast/Board 27 Tournament on Saturday night at Malden Catholic.

The Wamps (16-3) limited the Patriots (18-1) to just 4 points in the first quarter and opened a 30-point cushion at halftime.

“I’m really proud of the way our kids played from start to finish,’’ said Braintree coach Kristen McDonnell. “They’re a very, very good team and hopefully we have the chance to play them again if we get that far.’’

Timberlake scored 11 in the first half, junior Jenna Roche finished with 12, and the Wamps’ swarming defense stymied Revere’s pair of 6-foot-2-inch forwards in Valentina Pepic and Meaghan Gotham. Pepic, a junior averaging almost 20 points per game this season, finished with 6.

“We’re always a team where our defense makes our offense,’’ said McDonnell. “We were hoping our style of play would work against them. We were trying to keep their forwards as far away from the basket as possible.’’

Senior forward Meaghan Gotham led Revere with 11 points and seven rebounds.
