Sunday’s Child is a weekly column that features a child currently in foster care awaiting adoption.
Tresean is an energetic 8-year-old boy of African-American and Caucasian descent who enjoys staying busy.
He enjoys playing video games and taking car rides with his foster family. He does well in his current foster placement as the home provides consistent structure and the same daily routine.
Tresean is in the second grade, where he has an Individualized Education Plan to assist him in the classroom. Tresean loves superheroes, especially Batman.
Tresean would do best in a home with older children who could serve as positive role models or a family with no children in the home.
An adoptive family will need to be supportive of Tresean’s birth family connections. He has an open adoption agreement for visits with his birth mother and also will need to have continued contact with his three older siblings.
What does adoption cost?
It costs little or nothing to adopt a child from foster care. Unlike international or private adoptions, there is no adoption agency fee. There are also a number of free post-adoption support services available to families statewide, including support groups and respite care. Children with special needs who are adopted from the foster care system are eligible for ongoing financial and medical assistance after adoption. These children are also eligible for a tuition waiver to attend a Massachusetts state college or university.
To learn more about Tresean, and about adoption from foster care, call the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange at 617-54-ADOPT (617-542-3678) or visit www.mareinc.org. The sooner you call, the sooner a waiting child will have “a permanent place to call home.’’
