University of Massachusetts Lowell will host “The Power and Potential of Women,’’ its first conference for women leaders, headlined by UMass Lowell graduate and interior designer Taniya Nayak and humorist Gina Barreca. Topics at the June 21 event will include mentoring, negotiating salaries, building influence, and leading a healthy life. Wakefield’s Temple Emmanuel will soon welcome Rabbi Gregory Hersh, who graduates from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in June. Hersh earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religion at George Washington University, and spent time after college in Southeast Asia, where he lived in a Buddhist monastery, taught English, and explored other Eastern philosophies in attempt to bridge the gap to Western ideology. He joins the temple in August.

The Ipswich River Watershed Association invites everyone down to the water for the first ever Ipswich River Paddle-A-Thon. The June 18 fund-raiser will be fun for the whole family, as well as help keep the river clean and healthy. Awards will be given for most money raised; most people rallied; best boat decoration; and most inspirational paddler. Each registered paddler, limited to 50, will receive a T-shirt, map, and food and drink tickets for the after-party. To register, go to ipswichriver.org.

The Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestra is holding auditions for string, woodwind, brass, and percussion students ages 6-18 for the 2016-2017 season. Auditions, to be held June 11 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Ipswich High School, will be for eight ensembles for all levels of playing. Kate Chadbourne will bring a creativity program for adults to Castle Hill on the Crane Estate in Ipswich. The program, which will be held June 5 from 1 to 5 p.m., will focus on making handmade books and writing haikus. Snacks and a walk around the casino, Italian Garden, and Great House also are included. All materials are included in the cost, which is $54 for members of the Trustees of Reservations and $70 for nonmembers. Participants must register online by June 3 at thetrustees.org.
