There are tens of thousands of world records kept by the folks at Guinness, including some really strange ones: Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat kissed for 58 hours, 35 minutes, and 58 seconds; Donald Gorske ate 26,000 Big Macs over his lifetime; and Lee Redmond’s fingernails measure 28 feet, 4.5 inches. By comparison, the world record just set by Jack Lepiarz seems ordinary. But it’s not. Lepiarz, who works as a reporter for radio station WBUR, holds the record for most bullwhip cracks in one minute with one hand. The previous record, held by Wisconsin’s Adam Winrich, was 267, but Lepiarz, who performs as Jacques Ze Whipper at King Richard’s Faire in Carver, broke that by cracking the whip 278 times in a minute. (It was his second attempt.) Who knew such a record even existed? “There are plenty of people in the whipping community who know it,’’ Lepiarz said. “I’m hesitant to call it that because it sounds really weird.’’ Lepiarz said he expects Winrich will try to reclaim his title, but for now, he’s happy to own the world record. “It’s a lot of strain on the arm,’’ he said.
