Tables Openings, closings, and chatter from the restaurant scene

Notable openings: Juliet has opened in Somerville’s Union Square (257 Washington St. at Webster Avenue), run by Josh Lewin and Katrina Jazayeri. You might know them from Gitana, their popular pop-up restaurant at Somerville’s Cuisine en Locale. Before that, the duo ran the Bread & Salt Hospitality pop-up at South End cocktail lair Wink & Nod, and Lewin earned fans years ago at Beacon Hill Bistro. The resto-cafe serves tacos and pastries at breakfast, lunchtime lobster rolls and pickled cauliflower sandwiches, and bigger plates like ragu Bolognese after 4 p.m. Also look for unusual teas, tonics, and matcha, and a prix fixe menu at the six-seat counter. Juliet is open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., though they might expand their hours (and alcohol offerings) soon.

Down the block, Gracie’s Ice Cream (22 Union Square) has reopened for the season — with a twist. Juliet’s Lewin and Jazayeri are new co-owners along with founder Aaron Cohen. Cohen says that Lewin and Jazayeri will work on flavor and recipe development. “I’ll continue to do things like wander the cookie or cereal aisle of Market Basket thinking about what to mash together,’’ he reveals.

Expanded service: Elsewhere in Somerville, Peter Ungár’s Tasting Counter (14 Tyler St. at Properzi Way) kicks off lunch service on March 15, Tuesday through Thursday. Buy $55 tickets for three courses with pasta, meat or fish, and dessert, culled from that night’s nine-course menu. And stop into Olde Magoun’s Saloon (518 Medford St. at Broadway) every Wednesday this month starting at 5 p.m. for a preview menu from their upcoming, slightly fancier sister restaurant, Charlestown’s Blackmoor Bar + Kitchen. Sample chilled soba noodles, lamb poutine, and Boston cream pie.

Expansions: Anna’s Taqueria has opened its seventh and largest location in Newton (27 Lincoln St. at Walnut Street). This branch will serve salad bowls for the first time — burrito fillings on a bed of lettuce.
