Quinnipiac scored three power-play goals in the first seven minutes of the second period to take control and went on to beat Harvard, 4-1, in the ECAC championship game on Saturday night in Lake Placid, N.Y.
The win gives the second-ranked Bobcats the conference’s automatic NCAA Tournament bid, but Harvard also will likely get an invite when the field is announced Sunday.
Tom Clifton got it started for Quinnipiac (29-3-7) at 1:11 of the second with Luke Esposito off for a five-minute major for boarding. Landon Smith struck again at 3:02, and K.J. Tiefenweth closed the spurt at 7:20 while Adam Baughman was in the box for holding.
Ryan Donato scored for ninth-ranked Harvard (19-10-4).
Atlantic Hockey final — Myles Powell and Liam Kerins each scored twice as RIT (18-14-6) beat Robert Morris, 7-4, in Rochester, N.Y., to win the conference’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth.
WCHA final — Gerald Mayhew scored the go-ahead goal on a penalty shot with 26 seconds left in the second period as Ferris State (19-14-6) upset No.?15 Minnesota State, 2-1.
NCHC final — Mikey Eyssimont scored twice and fourth-ranked St. Cloud State claimed the conference title by beating No. 16 Minnesota-Duluth, 3-1, in Minneapolis.
Big Ten final — Tyler Motte scored twice and No. 7 Michigan scored three unanswered goals in the third to beat Minnesota, 5-3, in St. Paul.
